7.5.19 // The best part of gardening/farming/homesteading: getting to witness all the critters that reside in my garden. This is why I will never use pesticides; not even “natural or organic” ones like neem, bt, diatomaceous earth, or pyrethrum... Sure I may lose some of my crops to pests and that’s okay with me. I know as I continue down this road more and more beneficial insects, lizards, toads & birds will call my garden home and help me with pest control. It takes time to create a natural garden, healthy ecosystems don’t happen overnight. I’m here for the long haul and enjoying the show!
6.30.19 // our first ever crop of garlic ✨ our biggest & best heads vs. our smallest & cutest! this is the first year I’ve grown lots of allium family members! Garlic, green onions, bulb onions, chives, garlic chives & egyptian walking onions all have grown in my garden this season! It’s been super fun to grow these new crops and to get a bounty of garlic to use this year. I love that I’ve had ZERO pest issues with these crops, which is a breath of fresh air compared to my other crops 🌿 What’s your favorite allium to grow? 🌿
